Cobian Backup Black Moon
Cobian Backup Black Moon is the code name for the
next version of Cobian Backup.
This new version will have some differences, though:
I'm dropping support for the 9x OS. This new version will only run
on NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista, etc. And no, I'm not going back there.
This version will fully support Unicode (when possible). Remember
that Zip files and FTP transfers are by definition non-Unicode
operations. I told you. Not going back to 9x.
This version will be a "Back to the roots" one. I'm dropping a lot
of stuff that is only "bloating" the code (plug-ins come to mind.
Too many extra code, too little functionality).
The future of SQX is undecided at this moment. I'm considering using
7zip as an alternative method.
Almost EVERYTHING can be parameterized. You can enter parameters
almost everywhere.
New scheduling types will be added
The mask logic will be completely rewritten
TCP/IP will no longer be used as IPC. No more questions from folks
that don't read the FAQ.
Support for shadow copy for XP or better. Not going back to 9x.
This will be a green application (no storing in the registry, all
files in the same directory)
Incremental and Diff options using date/time and attributes will be
supported.
And much more.
Here comes some pictures of the version. Please,
bear in mind that these are EARLY development pictures, and a lot of
things are not implemented yet. Also, the icons used here are
temporary, I'll find some other icons later. In all pictures I use
some caption in different languages to show the Unicode capabilities
of the program. Click on a picture to see a larger version.
Creating a task.
The option dialog.

The user interface
The new code. Everything is written from scratch.
