Introduction
The papers
written by Ingrid Carlgren & Daniel Kallos, David Sander, and Gaby
Weiner were all first presented at the AERA York in April 1996. Comments
were presented by Herbert Kliebard and Lyn Yates. After the conference,
the contributors were asked to review their manuscripts. I want to thank
the writers for their cooperation in my editorial efforts. This publication
has partly been financed through a grant from the Swedish National Agency
for Education.
