International Projects

TEN-10
Teacher education has traditionally been closed within national borders. National degree structures and curricula are obstacles to increased mobility among teachers. There are limited possibilities for further education at postgraduate level (Master or Doctorate). Languages also produce barriers. International cooperation is a major step to be taken towards more openness in this field.

TEN-10 is an initiative which to link of Teacher education institutions in Europe closer together in order to improve teacher education for the future. In the project, the following themes are emphasised:

• reform of study structure in TE within the Bologna Process,
• development of teaching,
• improvement of quality assurance,
• strengthening of research and Doctoral studies within TE, and
• balance between national diversity and the European dimension in TE.

TNTEE
Teacher education has traditionally been closed within national borders. National degree structures and curricula are obstacles to increased mobility among teachers. There are limited possibilities for further education at postgraduate level (Master or Doctorate). Languages also produce barriers. International cooperation is a major step to be taken towards more openness in this field. TNTEE (Thematic Network on Teacher Education) is an effort to create a flexible, multi-lingual trans-national forum for the development of teacher education programmes in Europe. More than 200 teacher training institutions in Europe are members of the network. TNTEE is partially financed through the SOCRATES programme of the European Union and is coordinated by the Dean’s office at the Faculty of Teacher Education at Umeå University.

EUDORA
EUDORA (previously EDIL) is a collaborative initiative on European level to develop Ph.D.-level courses in the area of Education. The ultimate aim is to develop a modular curriculum with the goal of producing a European Ph.D in the area of education (European Doctorate in Teaching and Teacher Education). Modules and programmes that have been developed cover areas such as e-learning, comparative educational policy analysis and social inclusion. The project is in its fifth year.

European SchoolNet
The Faculty of Teacher Education is involved with the development of the European SchoolNet. Currently, The Department of Interactive Media and Learning is involved in the development of the Virtual Workspace Environment, and has previously been involved in development of the Swedish SchoolNet.
The purpose of the European SchoolNet is to inform about the educational uses of ICT (information and communications technology) in Europe to policy-makers and education professionals. This is achieved through communication and information exchange throughout school education using innovative technologies, and by acting as a gateway to national and regional school networks.
